Mahad Ali, PT · MS-focused physical therapist

I don’t just work in the MS world. I live in it.

I bring clinical knowledge to this work, and I understand MS personally because I live with it too.

Mahad Ali, founder of Mahad MS PT and Mind Over Nerves

My story, briefly

I’m Mahad Ali, a physical therapist focused on helping people living with multiple sclerosis.

My perspective is also personal: I live with MS myself.

That does not mean every person’s experience is the same. It means I understand that MS is not limited to what happens during an appointment. It can affect how people think about movement, confidence, consistency, uncertainty, and the future.

Mahad MS PT brings together my clinical background, lived experience, and belief that useful support has to fit the person’s actual life—not an idealized version of it.

Training and background

I earned my Master of Science in Physical Therapy at Dalhousie University and spent my first two years of clinical practice in Canada. I'm a licensed physical therapist in Virginia, and my clinical work is focused on people living with MS.

My connection to MS is personal too. I had optic neuritis in 2013 and was formally diagnosed with MS in 2025. I know what it is to be the patient hearing the news, not just the clinician explaining the plan.

How I work

One-on-one, for the full visit. Sixty-minute sessions built around your goals, your symptoms, and your environment — not a generic protocol designed for an idealized patient.

MS is variable, so plans are built for your actual life: your energy on a given day, the stairs you actually climb, the activities that matter to you. We measure against your goals and adjust as your body changes.

MS is my specialty — but my practice isn't limited to it. Whether or not you have MS, you get the same one-on-one care and the same individualized plan.
